The Andromeda And Milky Way Collision 🌌

So for science, I am going to be researching more about the Andromeda and Milky Way collision that is said to happen in 4.5 billion years. Basically, they are two different galaxies that are said to collide with each other and don't worry it is said that the sun will be okay and some of our planets too.
~
Paragraphs...
The Milky Way, the galaxy our home planet 'Earth' is kept safe and sound in its orbit around the sun. Our Milky Way has been around for 13.51 billion years and in counting. This place with our solar system has over 200 billion stars and is known to have a lot more dust and gas to make way more. "It's almost like we're sailing through the galaxy sideways" - Merav Opher. The Milky Way is around about 3 million light-years away from the Andromeda galaxy, so we are safe.

Now for Andromeda, now this galaxy is aged at 10.01 billion years and has about 1 trillion stars. Andromeda is the closet large galaxy to the Milky Way and has an apparent magnitude of 3.4. It is quite scary that Andromeda and The Milky Way will collide, in fact, Andromeda is approaching the Milky Way at approximately 100 to 140 kilometers per second. A fact about Andromeda is that it has at least one supermassive black hole hidden at the core of the galaxy.

These two galaxies are going to be meeting each other in 4.5 billion years. While Andromeda contains 1 trillion stars and the Milky Way contains 300 billion but the chance of even two stars colliding is very slim due to the huge distances between the stars. Anyways this collision has been confirmed and honestly is bound to happen, let's just hope it doesn't cause too much effect.

Tipping Point 🏀

So yes in Science the investigation you may of seen it (Putting it all together post). Well today we are adding onto it so...
Image result for ball bounce gif

In this investigation you are to record the relationship between the height a ball is dropped from, and the height of the ball's first bounce.
~
Equipment:
-Metre Ruler
-Ping Pong Ball (or another appropriate ball)
-Another Person
-A piece of paper and a pen/cil
-Camera (phone,ipad etc)
~
Aim:
To investigate the relationship between the height a ball is dropped from, and the height of the ball's first bounce.
~
Hypothesis:
That the ball will bounce higher when dropped from 20cm to 100cm.
~
Method:
To do this experiment you will need; a ball that bounces (or another appropriate ball), a metre ruler, camera to video the bounce of the ball (recommend slow-mo) and at least one other person to help you. Get someone to hold the metre ruler and drop the ball, while someone is records it. Drop the ball at the same height at least three times to get your results back. I recommend you to drop the ball from numbers going down in twenty (100, 80, 60, 40, 20). After that re-watch the video's back and write down the measurement from below the ball when it bounced. After you have added the average up (1st drop + 2nd drop of the same number + 3rd drop of the same number then divided it by 3). Now you have found your results, you could make it into a graph to present what you have done/achieved.
~
~
Key Variables:

Dependent Variables
The dependent variable/s is where the ball bounced up too.

Independent Variables
The independent variable/s is the centre meters to sum it up it is the different heights the ball was dropped from on the ruler.

Control Variable/s
The control variable/s is the surface you dropped the ball on and the ping pong ball (or the ball you were using).

 STORY CONTINUES
~
Discussion
My hypothesis was mainly correct, except the ball bounced higher from 20 centre meters which is interesting.
~
Conclusion
My results of this experiment do match the average bounce height because in my graph (In my book, it's in pencil so I can't show it sorry picture it in your mind :)) it shows the ball's bounce height go up. As well it is in about the same proportion except for the 43% result. (In percentages)
~
Evaluation
This investigation could of been improved. The reason why is because the numbers on the metre ruler could have been clearer to read. It was hard to look back at the video and decide where the ball bounced up too. So next time I would use a white tape so I can read the centre metres easier. Also I would go back and look at why the drop from 40 centre metres went down.
~
Closing Up
This was my investigation about Height Of Ball's First Bounced. Stay tuned to see more investigations in the future other than that I hope to see you soon!

Flight -2 Aerodynamics

Aim: To look at the four main forces at flying and how these can be overcome.

Hypothesis: I thought that the paper would fly longer.

Method: Working in pairs you are going to make a paper wing and experiment with it.

  1. Make a paper wing out of A4 paper
  2. On the field you will need to record and observe how 5 different changes affect the way it flies.

Flight. -1

Definitions:
Lift: The air pressure is greater underneath the wing then above and the aircraft / bird flies.
Drag: The force then effects the speed of aircraft / bird, It can slow it down.
Thrust: The forward movement of an aircraft / bird.
Gravity / Weight: The downward force of an object when it is above the earth.
Aerofoil: The shape of the wing on aeroplanes and some birds.
Bernoulli Effect: When a wing is in the shape of an aerofoil the pressure builds up underneath it and it beings to lift up the aeroplane.

Activity 1: Q: Your challenge is to hold a rectangular piece of paper close to your mouth, blow across the top of it and get the paper to move down. Sounds simple enough but give it a go and see if you change your mind.
A: If you blow on top of a piece of paper it will rise but it won't stay. This is also known as Bernoulli Effect.

Activity 2: Q: Try and make a piece of paper into a simple bridge and get the bridge to rise up by blowing under
it.
A:When you make a piece of paper a simple bridge and blow underneath it, the pressure would build up and let it rise.

Science AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

My Forensics Questions...
1.Can Fingerprints Be Pulled Off of Nearly Anything, or are there some surfaces or materials that simply don't produce good prints?
2.What types of cases are the most interesting/exciting for forensic scientists?
3.Even if testing doesn't produce a database MATCH, can you tell from a fingerprint or DNA whether it belongs to a man or woman, age etc?

The Case Of The Bare Foot Burglar (2) 👮

The Case of the Barefoot Burglar

In groups of 4 or five you are going to need to use your forensic knowledge to solve a crime.
Using the clues found at the crime scene, determine which of the four suspects is the "barefooted burglar"?
What do you think was the motive for this crime?
Write the results of your findings and convince a jury of your peers

The Crime

At approximately 7:15 a.m., Friday morning, Mrs. King, the science teacher, thought something was fishy as she walked down the hall and noticed that her door was open. She walked into her classroom and immediately discovered that the small aquarium had been broken and her prized gold fish were gasping in the sink. Beside the broken aquarium were the shattered remains of the pink piggy bank that had been on the shelf above the aquarium. A can of blue paint was spilled on the floor. Footprints of a barefooted burglar led to an open window. Bits of a white powdery substance were found next to the broken, empty, piggy bank. The only other item found was a half-eaten large chunk of chocolate candy.
When the police arrived they immediately began to gather forensic evidence.
Peg the LegPeg the Leg
Height: 5'
Alias: Lucky Lady

Foot Size:22.86
Peg is a librarian known for hanging horseshoes and four leaf clovers in her library. Employees say she is so superstitious she insisted on carpeting in the library instead of laying tiles so she would not step on the cracks. She wraps construction zone tape around open ladders so no one can walk under them. Cola bottles litter her office, which she drinks with chocolate chunks. Her teeth are chipped from knocking the bottles against them. She is always throwing salt over her shoulder for good luck and keeps a salt shaker in her purse. Her alibi is that she was busy closing open umbrellas the morning of the crime.

                                                                         Height 6'6"
                                                                      Alias: Armchair Quarterback

                                                                                         Foot Size: 79.718
Jake the Jock is known for quoting statistics on every sport from boomerang throwing to sled dogging. His neighbors report that he is the neighborhood pitcher for baseball games. Last year a baseball hit him in the mouth and knocked out his front tooth. This has cramped his eating style of chocolate chunks, candied apples, and corn on the cob. His wife claims that on the morning of the crime Jake was rubbing his hands with cornstarch to keep them dry in preparation for an important baseball game.

Dan
Dan the Man

Dan the Man
Height : 5'8"
Alias: The General

 Foot Size: 25.90800

Dan was wearing a woolen general's uniform with small holes when apprehended in the woods. He claimed to be gnawing on wood for moisture and insects to practice his survival training. His teeth look like a beavers from gnawing. His wife complains that she never has any baking soda due to Dan's compulsion about storing clothes in mothballs. He thinks the baking soda takes away the mothball smell, so he stuffs his pockets with the substance. Also, his wife reports that her giant chocolate kisses continually disappear from the candy cupboard. He blames their dog Patton, an English bull terrier, who patrols the neighborhood. His neighbors report that Dan loves the military. He was very regimented about playing taps on his bugle every day at sunset until an irate neighbor broke his bugle. Dan has been trying to save money for a new one.

Lou LouLou Lou
Height: 5'3"
Alias: Sweet Tooth

Foot Size: 24.00300
Lou Lou is so addicted to sugar that she never leaves home without it. She loves to bake sweet things and has an entire pantry full of sugar bins. She claims to have been baking her famous chocolate chunk cookies the morning of the crime (although not a morsel of cookie or chocolate chunk was left when the police arrived.) Lou Lou rarely wears shoes, which often causes her to slip and break things, especially her collection of ceramic pigs.
  • Sticky, 'swirl' fingerprints were lifted from the aquarium and piggy bank.
  • The painted footprints were measured and were for 26cm feet. ( size 8)
  • The chunk of chocolate candy was collected for examination. It appeared there were teeth imprints.
  • The white powdery substance by the piggy bank was carefully placed in a plastic bag and taken to the forensic chemist for identification . It had very small grains and when mixed with Iodine it reacted making the colour brown. It did not have a smell.

Jake and Dan Have the same finger prints.

Findings: ( what did you find. Summarise what you have written in the table above)
What my group found all leads up to one person. Now we have an exact idea of who it could be. We think it is Dan The Man, well not think we know because all of the evidence and clues lead up to him.

Who is it? DAN THE MAN

What Is The White Powder?

DA EXPERIMENTO
-

Equipment:
Baking Soda
Cornflour
Sugar
Salt
Iodine
Vinegar
Magnifying glass
Eyedrop
Black card
Tea spoon / stick

                       -
  Method:
  1. Place one-fourth teaspoon (1 ml) of the four white powders on a sheet of black construction paper. Label the powders with your pen.
  2. Study the powders with the magnifying glass. Examine what each powder looks like. How would you describe the powder's shape. Does it have large or small grains? Your observations should be written in the appearance column of the chart.
  3. Examine the powders further by rubbing each powder between your fingers. Describe how each powder feels in the Texture column of the chart.
  4. Determine if there is a smell to any of the powders. Record your findings in the Smell column of the chart.
  5. Take the eyedropper and place a drop of water on each individual powder. Examine what happens? Do the powders dissolve? Is there a reaction? Write your observations in the Reaction to Water column.
  6. Place one-half teaspoon (2ml) of each powder in a separate jar. Add 2 drops of iodine to each jar using the eyedropper. Record what happens in the Reaction to Iodine column. Iodine should be handled with care.
