A couple of weeks ago Mr Madden came in again. He taught us how to use google drawings to create our people then put them in a slideshow. Hope you enjoy mine!

Fractured Fairy Tale Writing

For weeks now we have been working on something different it is a fractured fairy tale. We got put in to groups by an app on the iPad. I was in a group with Isaac and Cameron J. First we had to do a plan what was so hard to write down all the ideas. Days later we started doing the slide show. We had to start writing and the progress went some fast. I learnt what a fractured fairy tale was and it was fun doing the slide show because it turned out to be great.

Top Team

On Wednesday this week the seniors and the middles did top team. The seniors did top team first so this is how it went. So about 9ish or something like that we headed out to top team. We had to get into our groups and listen to the guy who was running it. My group who was Matthew, Nathan, Chyna and Desharn and we had to make up a  team name we came up with 3 names and chose The Unbeaten Tigers. Then our first activity was the water activity.

The Water Activity...
So the water activity was where there was this large red pipe and 2 people or more from our team had to block the little holes in it. Only the four of us did this and our goal was to get this ball out the top of it. Nathan and I had to hold the holes with our fingers so the water would not get out of the pipe. When the noisy hooter went we could start! Matthew went first with a little ice cream container with water what he got out from a blue bucket. Matthew stood up on a step and put the water in the pipe as well as wetting us. Then it was Chynas go, she did the same. When  the hooter went to stop me and Nathan were soaked like wet dishes but a bit wetter. We had to go to the next activity which was a chicken game.

Chicken Run...
When we got to the chicken game we had to link arms to get a chicken, now the fake chickens had points on them and we did a great job at this and when the hooter went we got pulled like a muscly man playing tug of war. The hotter went to stop there were not more chickens laying around. I think we got 66 points and the other team got less but they did a great job. The next activity was a mat game.

Hoop Toss...
So we moved on to our 3rd game where we had to toss the hoop. The numbers on the thing you throw the hoop at had three 3's in the middle. Then 1 5 at the back but last but not least a 1 in the front. We got 2 hoops to throw at a time.


The Mat Game...
So we reached our 4th game what was were we had to get all of our team to the other side using a puzzle of New Zealand witch was huge! Minutes soon when the team was across we had to make the South Island and the North Island and we came first again.The hotter when so our next activity was we had to walk together in this big thing.

Walking Together...
So the next activity was where we had these to big kind of skies I guess and about 6 people could fit on it. So Matthew went in the front then Desharn, Nathan, Chyna then me. We got 8 in a row walks done and we tied with this other group who went way before us!


The Pipe Ball Game...
So our next rotation  was where we had a golf ball and  one pipe each and because we had 5 people in our group including me, we had 5 pipes. So one person puts the pipe on the lean and the other people joined their pipes so the ball could roll down and we had to run to the other person and join our pipe and we had to get the ball to the other end. We did it 1 time because it was really hard. The hotter went time to go!

House of cards game...
Soon we had to get some bricks well blocks and build the highest tower. We did a tower like a Jenga tower. We got the highest tower and used up all the blocks. After it got measured we got to knock it over that was fun!

Obstacle Course...
The next thing was really fun... It was an Obstacle course! What we had to do was get a huge spoon and put an tennis ball on it. So we had to step on 4 of these circle things what were bigger each time you stepped.Then we had to walk this thing that wobbled and it was as thin as a beam at Gymnastics. Then we had to go out and in these tall orange things. After we had to go over this really small sea-saw . Soon we had to put the tennis ball in the bucket. That was our last activity!

Prize Giving...
Soon it was prize giving. We had to clap for the people who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The man started with 3rd place the team sanded up. Then  2nd place we got second we were so happy. Then 1st who got a prize. I found it hard to hold the gaps with my fingers in the water activity! I loved doing Top Team because it was so much fun!

Guy Fawkes

This week because it is Guy Fawkes night or something like that. We have been given 2 questions about Guy Fawkes who created fireworks! The questions were who is Guy Fawkes? and what is he remembered for? So I worked with Natalia and Summer and it got the job done quicker. I learnt a lot about Guy Fawkes and I enjoyed working with Natalia and Summer.



 

Pasifika Flower Art

This week we have been making pasifika flowers. First we had to draw our design on a blank piece  of white paper. After we were happy with our design one of the teachers, photocopied 10 copies of our design. Later that day we had to dye our design and we got 6 different colours to choose from. A few days later when they were dry we started making our flowers. First I had to lay out my flower with my friend Natalia who helped me. After I was happy with the layout I glued my flower down. Soon I had to weave the center but Natalia weaved the first one so I could watch, because I forgot how to do weaving. Then I had to stick the center down and I was done! I learnt how to weave again and I enjoyed making to flower because it turned out amazing.

 

Picasso Art

Last week and for a part of this week the choir went to Adelaide!The children who remained did some fun stuff like this Picasso art.

We did this because there was a famous artist called Pablo Picasso who developed cubism art. We had to get a picture of our self (what the teacher took) and had to draw shapes out of our body parts.We used  pastels to colour our art work.We learnt to smudge the pastels, I found this difficult.

Book Trailers

We have been learning about book trailers. If you don't know what a book trailer is, it is a trailer about a specific book  so like a movie trailer but a book. Me and my partner  Jemma  did a book trailer about Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's dairy. It was fun and I learnt how to get the picture of the book to make the background.

 

                          

My Self Assessment

Sketching

Two weeks ago for  room 5&6's before school work we did sketching. We sketched many pictures that our teacher printed out for us. I sketched 6 or 7 pictures for the week and I felt proud of myself.  I liked sketching because it was fun. I learnt how to draw the shape of the picture slowly and not too hard.

Calendar Art

For calendar art this year we got the choice out of 3 pictures, which were on the board in room 8. I had chosen the last one. The way we voted was a blind vote, which is when everyone closes their eyes (except for the teachers) and listen for what number we wanted to do. We did the blind vote because some people go with their friends all the time. To do the calendar art we had to draw our tree in light pencil and then do it in vivid. After that, we coloured it in in pastel. We chose 2 different colours and smudge the colors together. I learned to blend the colours together. I enjoyed calendar art because it was fun!

Worms Eye View Art

Last week the whole class did worms eyed view art. What worms eye view is you have to lay down with a device like an iPad and take a picture. So what the class had to do first was get a colour  like purple or something and with the purple paint you had to paint to corners after 

The New Zealand Flag

For two weeks for our before school work (what is work we do in the mornings) we had to make a slide show talking about the New Zealand flag. We could do this slide show in groups or by our self. The slide show had to have pictures and not allowed over three minutes long. It also had to be inserting so the audience does not get board. I loved does the slide show because it turned out great.

Digi Awards

For 4 weeks the whole Senior Syndicate has been doing Digi Awards. What Digi Awards is it is mainly a competition between lots of schools and you get the choice of movie making, ripple effect, music video or digital art. I was in a group with Sophie and Aroha who i enjoyed working with! After we got into a group we got handed a script from the teacher and what we had to draw was a picture of what we would do for our movie in the 6 boxes also write what we would say for our voice over. We had to do a voice over because we were not allowed in our movie but we had to film it. So when we got up to filming we had to get some people from class that wanted to star in the movie. I loved doing Digi Awards because it was so much fun!

Something I learnt is you have to move the camera slowly when you are videoing.

         

Book Character Day

                     

Last Friday the whole school dressed up as a Book Character. I dressed up as Dorthy from the Wizard of Oz! Lots of people dressed up as really cool characters. My teachers dressed up as minions. I loved book character day it was so much fun!

Digital Dig

This week and a bit of last week room 5&6 have been making a slide show for digital dig. Digital dig is like some actives that you have to try complete. Some of them is like key board shortcuts what you try and find how to do them and learn at the same time. Most of it is to do with chrome and some of it you can do on a laptop. So I hope you like my presentation that I have done.

Hero Rap/Poem

Hero Rap/Poem Last week the class did a hero rap/poem. First we wrote all the words off the board into our books. Then we had to get two words that rhymed and then we got called up to the teacher and she help us do our poem. This is my poem underneath. 

  

An everyday hero is just an ordinary person who is selfless.

Everyday heroes also have sweetness.

Everyday heroes could be someone special to you in your family.

An everyday hero can be someone who you trust happily.

If your everyday hero is someone in your family they give you clothing.

They also are loving.

Your everyday hero could be someone who keeps you safe.

They can also have faith.

Winter Cinquain Poem

Last week the class did a Cinquain poem. What we had to do was chose one word for our top one then chose two words, then three, then four and finally one! After that one of the teachers checked it and we put pictures on it about the words we have on the poem. And under this is my poem!

New Zealand Flag Debate

Last term we learnt about the New Zealand flag debate. I learnt lots of things about the New Zealand flag debate like it would cost the country $26,000,000 to change the flag. 52% of people don't want the flag changed and a reason why to not change it is because it represent World War 1 & 2. The other half of people do want to change the flag and here is another reason but...it is a reason to change the flag. Some people thinks that the Australia flag is similar to New Zealand's flag but Australia has 6 stars and New Zealand has 5. I loved learning about the New Zealand flag debate it was so much fun!
